I have a hard time eating during these hot summer days. It’s all smoothies, kombuchas and coconut water most of the time, until the cool air shows itself after dusk and a feast forms to fill the whole days necessities. Not exactly the healthiest regimen, I know if anything we require extra fuel when the sweat is flowing most of the day. Luckily sugar snap peas are in season, along with broccoli, cucumbers, radish (yes, still rocking the radishes), zucchini, and baby beets! Veggies and dip at the beach, yes please MMM. So any Aussies who can tell me the ingredients in that uber popular forget the name super yummy beet dip? Seriously, I wish x2 that we could get that shiz, but I know I can make it to, if only I remembered the name. This dip creation is equally delicious and full of beautiful bloody red beets, roasted italian ribbed zucchini and salty fresh goat feta. Fresh dill, of course, a beets best friend. This Roasted Beet, Zuchinni and Feta Dip is a gorgeous addition to any spread, happy potluck food, and super easy to eat in the hot sun. Picnic anyone? (more…)
You know how people declare something really really tasty as ‘drool worthy’? Well how many times do they actually drool. I mean come on most people don’t drool no matter how amazing something tastes. But you know what? I drooled. Eating one of these sweet delights drool fell out of my mouth in slow motion and hit my drooling baby on the head. For it was the sweetest thing I’ve eaten during this whole body reset and God knows I of course can’t stop looking at food gawker and pining over all of donut days creations. My jaw dropped over this one, seriously chica, did you just do that? Take my word for it, these energy bites are drool worthy, in a healthy sort of way. (more…)
I have this secret innate drive to be a hunter. It’s almost a childlike fantasy, since I have no hunting knowledge whatsoever. But there is a group here devoted to the sacred side of hunting, honouring the animal, honing in with intuition, blessing, praising this life which has given itself so that we can continue living. A part of me wants to join this group, but another part is terrified at the thought of killing, I can’t even kill a fish without weeping. Those tears don’t necessarily mean that it’s wrong somehow, they are really tears of gratitude. (more…)
Oh yes that mystical nut so high in selenium and other essential minerals. Brazil Nuts are also loaded with vitamin E and B vitamins, high in fiber and protein, and just deliciously special since they come from so far away (at least for me). I used to think brazil nuts were really expensive, but in my corner of the world they are actually a little bit cheaper than almonds by the pound. These highly nutritious nuts make a wicked good milk to fuel you throughout the day.
Today I’ll tell you a little story. Once upon a time I was a devout vegetarian. Once upon that time I went to Jamaica and while my family went the famous Scotchies to dabble in world class jerk chicken, I passed. It was hard, but I was devoted, even amidst the smoky aromas. But I’ll tell you a secret, I may have tasted just the sauce. It planted a seed in my vegetarian heart and I haven’t forgotten now that I eat meat, that I have been craving jerk chicken since that very moment. One day I vow to go back to Jamaica and try (gorge myself on) the real deal. Until then, I have no qualms making it at home, but it’s never the same is it? I certainly don’t have an allspice tree in my backyard. (more…)
Hey I'm Chantelle, my alter ego would be a mermaid if I wasn't such a terrible swimmer. I love writing authentically and cooking in my pyjamas. My favourite pastimes include eating avocados, travelling the world and hanging out with a toddler.
