You know how people declare something really really tasty as ‘drool worthy’? Well how many times do they actually drool. I mean come on most people don’t drool no matter how amazing something tastes. But you know what? I drooled. Eating one of these sweet delights drool fell out of my mouth in slow motion and hit my drooling baby on the head. For it was the sweetest thing I’ve eaten during this whole body reset and God knows I of course can’t stop looking at food gawker and pining over all of donut days creations. My jaw dropped over this one, seriously chica, did you just do that? Take my word for it, these energy bites are drool worthy, in a healthy sort of way. (more…)
Today is just another one of those days where I really shouldn’t be on pinterest looking at any food that isn’t ‘whole 30’. For some reason all I want is a donut. I don’t even eat donuts, unless pregnant. AH! I just don’t want to eat another piece of dried fruit. There’s no sugar in the house aside from a little container of cinnamon sugar that is sounding mighty appealing. Oh dear, I hope this starts getting easier. (more…)
Sometimes, I just can’t stop with the pinning of beautiful, exciting, inspiring things. Especially on days like today when my eyes feel heavy and I forget all about the tea I made, oh an hour ago now! Excuse me while I fetch that. Long days in town seeing friendly faces and running around. Admittedly I left unprepared to face the scents of deep fried delights, pad thai and indian pakora being cooked in front of my eyes, loaves of fresh sourdough just waiting to be ripped apart. My belly gurgled but I did not succumb. J had a meeting and resisted the werther candies with all his might. You always want things more when you can’t have them. (more…)
Today I thinned some of the arugula and swiss chard in my garden. The result of this is heaps of delicate, delicious little gems also known as ‘micro greens’. These are the epitome of cute vegetables. One of these, beside my baby boys face and no adorable puppy snuggling a pigeon can compare in cuteness. On top of that, little bitty micro greens make a fine salad, from something most people toss to the side! The radishes were also ready for harvest, big cherry bells full of spice. Purslane starting to crawl it’s across all shady spots, a common weed, filled with succulent omega-3 goodness. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to dig my hands in to the earth. Something in my soul just feels so completed, so content, so filled with wonder and hope for the future. Gardening can seem daunting to some, but I feel it is a really therapeutic and fulfilling use of free time. My dream is to someday have a huge garden with so much extra to give away. That’s what it’s all about, sharing the bounty, spreading the seeds.
I have this secret innate drive to be a hunter. It’s almost a childlike fantasy, since I have no hunting knowledge whatsoever. But there is a group here devoted to the sacred side of hunting, honouring the animal, honing in with intuition, blessing, praising this life which has given itself so that we can continue living. A part of me wants to join this group, but another part is terrified at the thought of killing, I can’t even kill a fish without weeping. Those tears don’t necessarily mean that it’s wrong somehow, they are really tears of gratitude. (more…)
I’m eating delightful pickled green beans as I write this. Green beans I’ve hoarded since last fall, and now it’s time. Time to eat all those canned delicacies that haven’t already been gobbled up over the winter months. Gotta clear the space for all the new abundance coming our way. ps. I will post a recipe for those green beans once they are in season, soo good.
Always I am seeking new ways to bring dandelion in to the mix. This green is versatile, free and of course, everywhere! Wild greens are just that, wild. You are what you eat. I don’t want to be some manicured, tended to, doted over, pest infested lettuce. I would rather be a rugged, crazy, and sometimes out of control wild thing. But hey, I love lettuce too it’s just nice to dabble in some wild greens when they’re available. Make hay while the sun shines. Dandelion is a great detox food for the liver, it’s also high in iron and mildly diuretic. So get picking! (more…)
